Tracking

An eccentric explosion of dance. Vibrant and funky, these dynamic dancers mix 70’s kitsch, Cluedo and vintage Britishness to an exhilarating soundtrack from talented Brighton bands.

Tracking is a relentless race through the City of London, observing our British eccentricity, sense of invention and support for the beloved underdog. Never fear, StopGAP are here and despite the odds they will save the day!

Guest Dancer: Dave Toole
Props and Costumes: Lucy Bennett
Set Design: Lise Marker

Tracking was commissioned by Without Walls and Shape Arts, inspired by London 2012.

Outdoor performance

StopGAP has a very unique working method. The company works with the company dancers over a number of years to build strong personal relationships between them. Through this stable relationship, the company draws out each dancer's physical and intellectual potential, which then allows the dancers to create honest pieces of dance. As a result, StopGAP is able to produce dance that exhibits its philosophy of physical, psychological and social integration.

This innovative method of dance-making allows StopGAP to challenge traditional notions about dance; that a dancer should look and move a certain way, or need to have a certain attitude. The company celebrates its dancers’ individuality and uses that as the starting point to seek artistic and technical excellence. Our work appeals to a wide range of audiences — from dance connoisseur to those new to dance — because of its belief that dance is not only for certain kinds of individuals.

It’s really important to everyone in the company that we take our work to the streets, where anyone can come across our performances. As we’re aware that this audience can be transient unless we capture their attention, StopGAP’s outdoor work is created to capture and captivate people’s attention; showcasing the company’s humour and allowing us to enjoy entertaining.

With Tracking, StopGAP is the first integrated dance company to have an outdoor work. This repertoire also welcomes the internationally renowned disabled dancer Dave Toole (formally of CandoCo and DV8).

It was a delight to present Tracking at our summer shorts. It’s a lovely show.

Inventive and crowd-pleasing. I really appreciated the witty and humorous approach that worked through the whole show.

I saw the Piccadilly Gardens display in Manchester on Saturday. Performing Arts hasn't been my thing before but I found the show beautiful, dynamic, engaging, lively and fun.
